Try Fi Dog Collar Tracker Review

There’s no question that one of the biggest fears that animal owners have is their pets running away or getting lost. This trepidation is understandable considering that out of 100 million dogs in the US alone, one out of three dogs is reported lost or stolen at some point in their life. While most people reunite with their lost pets, it is still an anxiety-inducing process trying to locate your beloved four-legged friend. Perhaps Fi Dog Collar can be of some assistance.

The Fi Dog Collar Company Review

Here’s my full review of this company and all that you need to know about the product. This should answer many of your questions. Whether you’re buying a collar for a large dog or a smaller dog like mine, it functions the same. I’ll kick things off with info on the company in general.

About Barking Labs & The Fi Dog Tracker

Fi is a dog technology company that took your standard dog collar and turned it into a high-tech search and rescue! The corporation is headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, and the development was initiated in 2017 and cofounded by Johnathan Bensamoun and Loren Kirkby.

The company’s objective is to keep dogs safe at all times, and in the unfortunate event that it escapes or gets lost, your pet will be quickly located and returned unharmed.

About the Product

The Fi Dog Collar uses a new technology called LTE-M (more on that later) network to allow the owner to have full awareness of their dog’s every move. The GPS unit is made from very resilient metal hardware making the whole collar an attractive and compact device.

The neckband is very sturdy as it is chew proof and waterproof, even being able to endure ocean water. It comes in different colors and sizes. The colors are gray (my personal favorite), yellow, blue, and pink. Here are the various neck sizes:

  • Small 5″ – 13.5″
  • Medium 13″ – 16.5″
  • Large 16″ – 22.5″
  • X-tra Large 22″ – 34.5″

What Is LTE-M Network?

LTE-M (mentioned previously) stands for Long Term Evolution (4G) category M1. It is a low-energy network that works exclusively with the Internet of Things or IoT devices. The IoT is a platform that allows things such as a smartphone and a smart dog collar to interact and collaborate with other objects/devices on a network.

With LTE-M network technology, you can locate your pup in an area where a 3G network device could not. The significant benefits to this type of technology are extended battery life and cellular range.

How It Works

The Fi Dog Collar works in two ways. It works as a safety device if your dog escapes from home or becomes lost. Fi tracker monitors your dog’s every move with their GPS module on the LTE-M network. You will know what’s going on even when your pup is not with you. If your pet is with a dog walker or a sitter, you won’t miss a beat!

It accomplishes this by sending you an escape notification if your pet leaves any safety parameters. You can set these safe zones at home and across the US using the app’s Geo-Fencing setting! So, you can travel anywhere within the US, knowing that your pet is in good hands!

If your dog is lost, then you can activate the Lost Dog Mode, which will trigger the red pulsing LED light on the collar. This makes your pet detectable at night or in any other conditions where visibility is low.

It also functions as a fitness tracker, similar to how Fitbit and like devices work for humans. It has fitness goals that you can set for your dog and tracks your pet’s daily steps. As previously mentioned, the Fi tracking collar has a LED light. The different colors represent what is happening to the device. To utilize its full potential, you should know these following modes:

  • Solid blue means fully charged.
  • Pulsing blue means that it is charging.
  • Pulsing red means that the “Lost Dog” mode is activated.
  • Pulsing green means, activated, restarting, or reset.

Battery Life

While most smart dog collars have great features and results, one of the things that set the Fi Dog Collar apart is its remarkable battery life. Some tracking collars require a battery charge once a week and, even more in some cases.

One of the ways the tracker collar extends its battery life is by having the capability to connect via Bluetooth instead of always relying on GPS. As a result, Fi company claims that battery life can last up to 3 months!  Reviews by other users support this claim.

Setting Things Up

The packaging that the smart collar comes in is streamlined and simplistic. It comes in an attractive yet unassuming package that safeguards its contents without any unnecessary waste. Along with the collar are the user instructions, collar band, module, base, USB charger cable, and USB adaptor.

One of the first things that you should do is charge the device. The next step is installing the Fi mobile app. You will do this via the App Store for iOS devices and Google Play for Android devices.

After you download the app, then you will create an account. The app will ask permission to access GPS, and when it does, you will be prompted to provide some information about your dog. The app will then connect to your Wi-Fi. This process is pretty direct and shouldn’t take long. If it does, then something may be wrong such as you not allowing the app to access your location.

Price And Where to Buy

If you go to the company’s site at, you can buy it for $149.00. A subscription is highly recommended to maintain GPS/LTE services. A one-year subscription is $99.00, a two-year subscription is $186.00, and a three-year subscription is $248.00.

It offers no monthly subscriptions. You can also buy the smart collar on other sites such as Amazon and eBay. It provides a 30-day money-back guarantee.

The Pros:

  • Good, long battery life.
  • User-friendly mobile app.
  • 1-year warranty.
  • 30-day money-back guarantee.
  • It has a sturdy and attractive design (chew proof).
  • Its waterproof (including ocean water).
  • It utilizes both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity.
  • It utilizes GPS tracking.

The Cons:

  • The collar is pricy and requires an additional annual service subscription for GPS/LTE.
  • A monthly subscription is not optional.

If you’re extra concerned about losing your four-legged friend, then you should consider purchasing this collar for your dog. I recommend giving it a shot and if my review still has you feeling skeptical, then you need to read the stories published by other users. Check out the official website for more info!
